Explore Restorative Practices through facilitated activities and meaningful conversations led by educators & students: 9-4 in-person

Two Days: Wednesday, November 2 (9 am – 4 pm) and Thursday, November 3 (9 am – 4 pm)

Restorative Practices foster school communities where relationships are honored, harm is repaired, and students and staff find belonging. In this workshop, students and educators will learn about the historical roots and philosophy of Restorative Practices, as well as examine how Restorative Practices are being implemented and Restorative Mindsets are being developed in schools and communities across the country. You will also participate in the foundational Restorative Practice of community-building circles and learn practical skills for how to begin or strengthen the implementation of Restorative Practices in your classroom and school.

Objectives: Educators and students will…

  • understand and respect the indigenous roots of Restorative Practices, and explore how to avoid and interrupt cultural appropriation within Restorative Practices.
  • explore the possible impacts of Restorative Practices on students, school community, and society.
  • engage with the community-building circle process (Tier 1), examine the different types and purposes of circles, and effectively plan and facilitate community-building circles.
  • have awareness of restorative conferences to respond to conflict and harm (Tier 2) and circles of support and accountability (Tier 3).
  • gain experience implementing Restorative Practices to effectively establish safe and trusting communities which balance expectations between educators and students so that everyone may feel heard, valued, loved, and respected.

All students and educators are welcome. Invite your own students and educators to come along — 20% discount for teams of 4 or more! Educators, we would strongly encourage you to bring students with you. Students are welcome to come with or without an educator.

Lunch will be provided.
